Bohol: God’s Little Paradise

There’s no place like home.. my home in the small beautiful island of Bohol. As a proud Boholana, I must say that Bohol is a perfect place to live in. Why? It’s because Bohol is a little paradise for me. The warm and hospitable Boholanos will surely welcome you with their big smiles especially when you visit there in the month of May where they celebrate their fiestas in honor of the patrons and saints. That’s also the time where some of our loved-ones, friends and people from all over the world goes home and have their vacation to get along with the family.

It’s not only the people that made it nice but, also the beauty of God’s creation that can only be found here in Bohol. Where else can you see a perfectly cone-shaped Chocolate Hills? Chocolate Hills is the most famous tourist attraction in Bohol. It’s primarily located in the towns of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan. It’s an hour trip from the city of Tagbilaran. It is made of around 1,268 hills of about the same size and scattered all over those areas. It is covered with green grass that turns brown during dry season. When I was young, my father told me about the legend of the Chocolate Hills. He said that long time ago there was a giant named Arogo who was so powerful. He fell in love to a simple mortal, Aloya. But Aloya died and because of her death it caused so much pain and misery to Arogo that he could not stop from crying. When his tears dried the Chocolate Hills were formed. Though, that’s just a legend but it sounds interesting and fun to me. No wonder the Chocolate Hills is now being nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. What about beaches? Yes, pristine sands and crystal clear beaches can also be seen in Panglao, Bohol. Tourist from around the world visits to get in touch with nature and relax in some of the cozy resorts there. Oh how I want to unwind again at Bohol Beach Club, Alona and Eskaya Beach Resort! Fantastic! If you love adventure and you love marine life, you can also have diving at Alona or Balicasag Island. It’s one of the world class diving locations.

Let me also take you to the smallest primates in the world, the Tarsiers. It is a small cuddly creature with a very long tail, long limbs and huge eyes. Though the eyes cannot move, its head can turn 180 degrees. It’s so cute! This primate is nocturnal. Its favorite food is the cricket and other insects.

Bohol is also rich in culture, tradition and heritage. The Baclayon Church in the town of Baclayon is the second oldest church in the Philippines. If you love taking pictures of old churches then, why not come and visit.

Bohol has so many things to offer and those are just a portion of its paradise. I’m a Boholana and I love my home.
